How old?
DH and I visited some friends in Dallas when we went through. Kelly (guy) and Lisa have a 3-year-old daughter named Gracie. She kept asking us all kinds of questions. One was "how old are you?" I responded five, as I figured, old is old... Her mom, Lisa, added "but she has a niece that is three years old." Gracie immediately looked at my knees in astonishment. Lisa quickly amended her statement - Miss JulieAnn's COUSIN is three years old. I just about died laughing.
Whirlwind
So, since I posted last we:
- arrived at our final destination... well, for now
- found a realtor
- searched for places to live
- found a condo
- flew standby to Florida
- met DH's brother's fiance, Sydney
- worked on house paperwork
- packed for our next adventure!

Grand Canyon!
The Grand Canyon was beautiful! We really enjoyed it, but still hold a place in our hearts for the Waimea Canyon on Kauai. The Arizona Grand Canyon is huge, but we thought the Waimea Canyon was more colorful (perhaps it was the time of day and we most certainly are biased!)

Here are some of my favorites from our trip to Honolulu (between Australia and our cross-country drive)

DH has to do some pre-graduate-school work (math during the summer - yuck! just kidding) so while he was working I decided to hit a beach one of my old neighbors told me about (thanks Kyle VL) - and found the beautiful Lanikai.
Mountains and beach - who could ask for anything more?

See how the current is altered after hitting the two islands? You can kind of see how the waves curve to the left of the islands.

USS Utah - one of the ships hit at Pearl Harbor. They tried to recover it, but ended up tipping it over and it stands there to this day. DH used to have to navigate around it. It's on Ford Island, a Navy base, so not many people see it. We just walked right up to it (versus the hours you stand to see the USS Arizona)
I brought a lei and the current carried it toward the Utah

It was good to be on O'ahu, but hard - it was so close to home, but so far away from Hilo...

Since I've posted last, we've spent some time at the Grand Canyon - beautiful!! and visited with some friends in Dallas and we're about 2 hours away from the final destination now. So close!
Today we're going to look at different neighborhoods and then we meet up with a realtor on Sunday to look at houses and condos to decide whether we should rent or buy...

Standin' on a corner in Williams, Arizona...
Ok, so it's technically Winslow, Arizona in the song, but we are here in the cute town of Williams, Arizona, which is absolutely adorable. We got into town this evening and had dinner at the Pine Corner - good homecookin' and fresh homemade pies. It was just a cute atmosphere, and across the street a band was playing on the patio of the mexican restaurant and people were sitting on benches on all sides of the street listening to them. It was really refreshing after the man-made Vegas.
It is stinking hot here. I think Vegas was 113 degrees today. That's really hot. The heat, even last night, emanated from the cement and from the buildings. All in all, Vegas wasn't as bad as I thought it would be... but then again, we were only on "the strip" for 5 or so hours, and we came out ahead.
I think the funniest part was that I "found my game" in Vegas. Do you know what it is? War. Yup. You versus the dealer, one card at a time. No skill involved. Yeah, I made money off of them with my madskillz.
We saw the Hoover Dam today. It was hot and big.

Where'd DH go? (Just kidding!) Anyway, that's a big dam.
Looking back to Lake Mead from the top of the dam. See the high water level mark? They didn't just paint it white! It's crazy how much the level of the water can change.
Arizona Mountains. We saw a lot of this type of scenery the past few days.

Back to the Mainland :(
We made it.
Thank heaven the flight to L.A. is only 5+ hours, not like the 9-10+ hour flight from Sydney to L.A. (more on that and the "ugly American syndrome" to come later). We got to LA and picked up our car. LA is not where I plan on residing anytime soon. It was a harsh shock after quiet, friendly Hilo.
We're now in Las Vegas (I'm not sure we're in a much better city) and are looking forward to spending our anniversary here and by the Grand Canyon - you can guess which place was my pick! Yay for making it one year!
