7.6.12 - Little Things: what's making me smile this week

Daddy Daughter Time - Daddy's been taking Luau to the pool lately. Sometimes I go with them, but sometimes I stay home and rest. During the 15 minutes of adult swim per hour, they sit together and watch things. Adorable. They really love hanging out together.

Pick one for you and a friend - This is my neighbor. Very very cool. They're some of the nicest neighbors ever and never hesitate to come help us when we have a question about our newborn (wife is a former pediatric RN) or military retirement or gardening questions (husband is very handy and retired military).

Too cool for school - She insisted upon wearing the sweatshirt (you know, because it was a chilly 85 that morning). She's got a personality and plenty of it!

Hugs for Mama - After my OB appointment on Monday, we sat on a bench and had a snack. She kept coming over to me and giving me hugs. What a sweet girl!

'Merican Flag - Our girl loves to point out 'merican flags when on walks or driving through town. We made a few of these flags for decorations when we had people over for the 4th of July.

Rocky Road - my latest craving. Sorry for cheating on you, Ben & Jerry. I'll be back, I promise!

It's not for lack of trying

I really wish Lu'au would take a bottle. It would make my life significantly easier (I can only guess that it would). We have tried numerous bottles with her, and we think she might start to take one - Tommee Tippee. Including that one, we have purchased and tried over ELEVEN different kinds of bottles. Oh goodness, let's hope this does not foreshadow pickiness to come...

Jell-o

What in the world did they put in the jello that they gave me in the hospital when baby girl was born? Seriously, four batches (consumed by me only) and 5 weeks later, I'm still craving jello. And the water's boiling for the fifth batch. Thank heaven I at least add pears and marshmallows. s

Life is Good

Trader Joe's has Mochi Ice Cream! Yay!

I think the baby really likes the strawberry flavor. Or it could just be me.

DC

We went to DC to scope out housing. Thank goodness we found something that we like! There were all sorts of strange houses in our price range in the area we want to be in - everything from not having a stove to smelling like curry... it was crazy!

While in DC, we went to our favorite pizza place - 2 Amy's for some DOC-certified pizza! Delicious! I've been dreaming about it ever since CO got his orders :) 2 Amy's is kind of by the National Cathedral, so we drove by there and I snapped a quick picture from the car - the cathedral is so pretty!

New Favorite Blog!

I have a new favorite blog to read and drool over - Annie's Eats!

She's about to become a doctor and still has time to make fabulous, beautiful food. Her recipes range from easy (Caprese Tarts) to a little more complicated, fancy cakes. Everything that I've tried from her blog has been delicious. Check it out!

Poster-child for Fat Camp

Let's just take some inventory of what I've eaten today:

- Bowl of Raisin Bran
- Samples of cheese dip with cracker (x2) at grocery store
- Chili cheese dip (just cream cheese, canned chili, and cheddar cheese)
- Fritos
- Boneless, skinless, chicken "wings" in hot sauce, dipped in BLEU CHEESE DRESSING
- Carrots and celery dipped in bleu cheese dressing
and then to top it off:
- Phish Food flavor Ben & Jerry's ice cream

Tomorrow's a new day. Let's hope my body doesn't revolt before then.

Makemake au mahi mahi

It's true. I do want mahi mahi. And tonight I got it! Yay! Mahi mahi was one of my favorite fishes to eat in Hawai'i, and I thought I'd try some from our local supermarket here in a landlocked state. While not as fresh as Hawai'i, it was pretty good!

I used a recipe from Epicurious and it was pretty good. DH didn't like the breadcrumbs, but I did. I didn't have any potatoes, so I just did the fish and it was pretty good!
